Twin of John White.

After obtaining research done by Donald Worth Rundle I realized that he had Jonathan with a different wife, Ann Worth. This got me to start looking for more proof as to who Jonathan was married to. Donald W. Rundle that John Worth’s father was listed as “Jonathan” on his birth certificate. There was also a book on the history of St. Neot in the family’s possesion. On Jonathan and Ann’s marriage certificate..Jonathan’s father was listed Hugh. So that proved that connection at least.

Wondering if there were two Jonathan’s born in St. Neot at the same time. Starting with the fact that there is only one Jonathan bap. in St. Neot anywhere near 1815.. got me digging deeper.

I have come to the conclusion that Jonathan had two families.. at the same time!

I have 1841 Census with Jonathan, age 27, still living with his parents. Which fits since he didn’t marry Ann Worth until 1842.

Now here’s where it gets interesting.. from 1842- 1861 Jonathan is a very elusive guy. While we know that his children by Ann, John Worth and Bessie, were born in Jersey, Channel Islands in 1842 and 1844, Jonathan does not show up on 1851 Census for Jersey. I checked all spellings and possibilities.. couldn’t find Ann or John W. either. They do not show up in 1851 Census for England either.

I do not know Jane’s maiden name, so it’s impossible to look for her in 1851, as she and Jonathan probably did not have a relationship yet at that point.

Then in 1861 Ann shows up in Camborne, Cornwell.. a “widow”. On the line for occupation, “husband is dead” is listed.

However.. Jonathan b. 1815 in St. Neot is found as a “lodger” in St. Andrews, Devon ( the town where he and Ann were married). He is listed as “married”.

I cannot find Jane and daughter, Selina, in 1861. Since there is a possibility that Jonathan and Jane were not actually married, I am guessing that they

were living under Jane’s maiden name.

To make things interesting, the town where Jonathan and Jane’s first child is born, Launceston, is basically adjoined to St. Stephens where Ann is from.

In 1870 the “widowed” Ann is in New Jersey, USA, living with her son, John.

Then miraculously in 1871 Jonathan appears with family number 2. I have Jonathan Rundle b. 1815 in St. Neot .. living in Sithney, Cornwall with wife, Jane and 3 daughters. Sithney is not very far from Camborne where his “other family” was last in Cromwell.

onathan could be the Jonathan, age 59, died 1872 in Helston, in BMD Index.

In 1881, Jane is a widow in Crowden, Cornwell with daughters.

In 1891, Jane is living with daughter, Bessie, (yes Jonathan had two daughter’s named daughter “Bessie”??) .. who was married and living in Penzance, Cornwall.

He married (1) Ann Worth, married 5 Mar 1842 in St. Andrews, Plymouth, Devon, Eng, b. c. 1810 in St. Stephens on Launceston, Cornwall, Eng.,40

Ann: Daughter of Ann Smith and Richard Worth of Cornwall. In 1861, Ann was living in Camborne, Corwnwall with John and Bessie. She is listed as “widow”. In 1870 and 1880, she is living in the US with her son and his family. She may have returned to England before her death.

  1. i. John Worth7 Rundle b. 5 Dec 1842.

He married (2) Jane ??? Rundle, b. 1827 in Tavistock, Devon, England, resided in Sitheny, Cornwall, England, d. post 1891,11 occupation Charwoman.

Jane: I cannot find Jane anywhere in the 1861 Census. It is possible she was living under her maiden name, since I doubt that she and Jonathan were actually “married” at this time. 1881 census shows Jane a widow aged 53 a charwoman, living at Tregear Bottom, Crowan, Cornwall with daughter Lucy (aged 11), and daughter Emily (aged 8, born Sithney, Cornwall). In 1891, she was living with daughter, Bessie, and her family in Penzance, Cornwall.

After arriving in the US, the family first lived in Michigan where __ was born. They most probably lived in Rockland, Ontonagon, Michigan where Agnes’ brother, Thomas, lived and worked in the Minnesota Mine. In the 1850’s, at the height of the copper boom, the Village of Ontonagon reached a population of 6,000. The Minesota mine which operated near Rockland 1846-1865 paid out millions of dollars in dividends.

When the mines in Rockland closed, the family moved to New Jersey, sometime between 1865 and 1869.. In 1870, The family was living in Rockaway, Morris Co, NJ in same house as Agnes’ brother, Thomas and his family. Thomas and Agnes’ husband, Nicholas, were Miners.

In Mt. Hope, the family belonged to the Mt. Hope Methodist church which was built in 1868 by the mining company for their employees and their families. It has also served as a hospital, and, when needed, as a schoolhouse.Pews in this church were used by the well-to-do parishoners, while the balcony was thought to be sufficient for the miners and their families. The congregation dwindled and eventually the church was closed.
